Thank you to everyone who voted for our local schools.

Welcome to Citizens for Pinellas Schools

In November of 2004, the voters of Pinellas County adopted an additional one-half mill property tax to directly enhance our local school system. In January of 2008, Pinellas County voters continued their commitment to Pinellas education by renewing that one-half mill property tax. If the one-half mill is not continued by the voters of Pinellas County in 2012, that funding will disappear from our classrooms.

The renewal question will appear on the November 2012 general election ballot.

Why we're asking the voters to continue this extra funding

The referendum funds have provided a dedicated source of funding for Pinellas Schools that we couldn't have any other way. The referendum has been producing funds for seven years and raised over $235 million for our local schools in that time. These funds recruit, retain and train our teachers; preserve reading programs; support music and art classes and provide up-to-date textbooks and technology in our classrooms. 100% stays in Pinellas and spending is monitored by an independent citizen oversight committee.  This is money that comes from Pinellas and stays in Pinellas - no matter what Tallahassee does. And its money that has to be used the way the ballot language is written - it can't be spent anywhere else.

The Pinellas Schools Referendum is good for every aspect of our community and we need to work together toward renewal. Good schools produce good kids and that benefits all of us.
